Enter Quibblo Writing Contest #20

We’ve all scratched our heads and rolled our eyes at one time or another about dumb rules or customs (whether in our home, our school, our region, or our nation). That’s the topic for our latest writing contest:

Create a story where an alien from your favorite planet asks you to explain several wacky habits/customs/rules/laws that some earthlings (such as you, your parents, your classmates) have.

Give it an interesting title (don’t include “Quibblo’s Contest,” “QC,” or similar), and remember to:

  • Check spelling and grammar
  • Tag it with WC20
  • Share it with all your friends, both on and off Quibblo

Please allow enough time to complete your writing. On June 11, we’ll select three winners to showcase on the Quibblo home page. Now, talk to your alien!

Deadline: 11:59 pm (EST), Sunday, June 9, 2013.

Test

After weeks of concepting, design, and programming (and critical beta testing by key Quibblonians), Qlockwork and his team have launched “Notes” on Quibblo:

Use Notes to post random thoughts, favorite links, memorable quotes, and cool photos, and find similar postings from your friends!

Notes are meant to be quick thoughts so we’ve removed the “Edit” button. Comments and replies to comments work the same as on quizzes and stories. If you want to delete a note, go to the actual note and click the “Delete This Note” link in the “Created by” box on the right.

Use the filters at the top of the Notes page to narrow down the notes you see. You can choose a combination of date range, source, visibility, and type to find just the kinds of notes you want.

We think you’ll enjoy using Notes, which are meant to replace the kinds of random thoughts that often end up as “stories” on Quibblo. Keep the story format for actual stories and check out Notes today!

For this contest, we’re looking for good old-fashioned creative writing:

A popular video game company has just released its latest and greatest creation. But its 3-D virtual effects seem a little too real… and some actually are!

  • Check spelling and grammar
  • Tag it with WC19
  • Share it with all your friends, both on and off Quibblo

Please allow enough time to complete your writing. On May 28, we’ll select three winners to showcase on the Quibblo home page. Ready? Go!

Plays aren’t easy to write so I appreciate all the entries for Writing Contest #18. As usual, there were a few unfinished scripts, which I had to ignore, as well as stories that were not written as plays. Let’s belt out three cheers for the winning entries below!

Enter Quibblo Quiz Contest #18

Mother’s Day is this weekend, so let’s go with “Mom” quizzes for this week’s contest:

Create a minimum 5-question survey, scored, or personality quiz on the topic of moms and motherhood: celebrity moms, mom rock stars, moms in film, history of Mother’s Day, motherhood trivia, maternal instincts…

Should I continue? Moms in the animal kingdom, motherhood around the world, “Are you like your mom?,” “Will you make a good mom?,” and so forth. The possibilities are endless!

Give it a descriptive title (not “Quibblo’s Contest,” “QC,” or similar), tag it with QC18, and share it with all your friends, both on and off Quibblo. Hurry, because on Monday, we’ll select three winners to showcase on the Quibblo home page. Create yours now!

Deadline: 11:59 pm (EST), Sunday, May 12, 2013. See this post for the rules and winner selection.

Nominations for the Tony Awards were just announced! (The Tonys are given for outstanding live Broadway theatre.) So the topic for this week’s writing contest?

Write your own drama (a bit of conflict, with a beginning, middle, and end) on any subject you want.

Check out pages like this for playwriting advice. Use standard dialogue formatting, which is different from how most stories on Quibblo are written. If you have different scenes (ie, chapters), start off each with a description of the setting. Ready? Let your inner playwright shine!

Give it an interesting title (don’t include “Quibblo’s Contest,” “QC,” or similar), and remember to:

  • Check spelling and grammar
  • Tag it with WC18
  • Share it with all your friends, both on and off Quibblo

Please allow enough time to complete your writing. On May 14, we’ll select three winners to showcase on the Quibblo home page. And… begin!

Deadline: 11:59 pm (EST), Sunday, May 12, 2013.
